Disney+ is developing a kids’ film reimagining THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

Disney+ is in the early stages of development on a new film titled Ghostwhich will be a cinematic reinterpretation of a children’s film Gaston LerouxThe classic novel of The Phantom of the Opera.

The series is developed by Kenny Ortegawhich he had previously developed High school musical AND Descendants for Disney. He will direct and produce the film. He has also worked on projects such as Dirty dancing, Hocus Pocus, A Day Off for Ferris Bueller AND Pretty in pink.

The specific script for the film was written by John M.Porta (At midnight) from a story by Brings AND Eric Bromberg.

The 1909 novel is set in the 1880s and tells the story of Erik, a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera. He becomes obsessed with a young soprano, Christine, manipulating events to make her the star of the opera.

This story has been adapted and retold countless times for stage, film and television, but its best-known version is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway musical.

There’s no further information on how this film’s story will be handled, but if it’s a teen reimagining, I suspect it will involve social media and/or pop star-style stuff.
