I remember the first time I saw Halle BerryThe Catwoman costume hit the internet on Ain’t It Cool News, and I remember reading the comments on the website and all the fans were saying bad things about it. The reaction was pretty intense because the costume looked so ridiculous.
I mean, when you make a comic book movie, you have to make sure the superhero costume is right! The director of Catwoman, Painterhe found himself competing with Michelle Pfeifferthe fantasy version of Tim Burton’s World’S Batman: The Return.
Pitof says his main contribution to the Catwoman costume design was to show as much skin as possible,
The director told CinemaBlend in an interview: “The idea was to move away from the traditional costume of the Catwoman character. The first thing everyone agreed on was a skin.
“This suit[would show]more skin than the others. That was my first input, when they asked me, ‘How do you see the suit?’ I said, ‘I want to see skin. I want to have this organic feel of something more animal-like.’ Even though it has skin, it’s a mix of skin and skin.”
Fans just wanted a cool Catwoman costume and showing more skin just didn’t work. Regarding that costume, the producer Denise DiNovi They explained their thinking previously:
“That was the first thing that started the negativity. It was one of the first takes before we perfected it. It was so different from what people were used to in the other movie.
“A suit, by definition, covers everything. We thought it would be nice to be more rock & roll and nude. Halle was famous for wearing a bikini in her Bond movie, and we were like, why not?
“People have had such a reaction, which is really ridiculous. We had the famous Colleen Atwood help us with that costume. Halle gave us a lot of suggestions. I still think it’s beautiful and much more modern!”
Berry added: “The fans were shocked by the costume. It was something different, but in our minds, why keep remaking Catwoman if you’re not going to take a risk and bring something different? The beauty of it was that it was more suited to my version of her, my body, who I was and my sensibilities.”
Here’s what everyone thought of the Catwoman costume, but ultimately fans didn’t like it.
