Alex Proyas Seems to Find Joy in the Failure of THE CROW Remake After Saying No

Director Rupert Sanders’ remake of The Crow It was a box office flop, grossing just $4.6 million on its opening weekend. That must be a blow to the director and Lionsgate, but I think anyone with any sense knew this reimagining wouldn’t be a success.

The director of the original film, Alex Proyasnow he’s having fun with The Crowdisappointing at the box office and he is clearly happy with this failure.

In a series of Facebook posts, Proyas said: “Wow. The box office is a bloodbath. I thought the remake was a cynical attempt to grab money. There’s not much money to grab, apparently.”

He also shared screenshots of negative reviews and posted a meme that read: “Marked safe from watching ‘CROW’ 2024 today.”

The funny thing is that this reaction contradicts something Proyas had previously said after the release of the film’s first trailer, which had received an extremely negative response.

He said: “I really don’t get any joy out of seeing negativity about a fellow director’s work. And I’m sure the cast and crew really did have good intentions, as we all do on any film. So I hate to say more on that subject, but I think the response from the fans speaks volumes.”

It is clear that he is now finding joy in the negativity of his fellow director’s failure.

Proyas continued: “The Crow it’s not just a movie. My name is Brandon Lee. He died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and his tragic loss. It is his legacy. That is how it should remain.

“The great amount of antipathies on The Crow The remake trailer could be a bad sign for how the film will go.”

He was right. Everyone except the people working on the movie at Lionsgate seemed to know it wasn’t going to work.
