Director James Gunn gave fans a little surprise in the form of a photo from the set of his upcoming film, SupermanThis photo is a first look at the character Jimmy Olsen, best known in the comics as Superman’s sidekick from the Daily Planet. Tyler Gisondi (Santa Clarita Diet, The right gems) played the role and he is absolutely perfect!
Gunn shared in his Instagram post yesterday:
“Happy anniversary to Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he did appear before that as a ‘delivery boy’ in Action Comics #6). Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and Bob Maxwell. Can’t wait for you to see @skylergisondo’s take on Superman on July 11, 2025.”
The film wrapped production late last month, and I was surprised that Gunn didn’t bring any of that footage or at least any interesting details to Comic-Con, but given that the film isn’t due out for release until a year later, I figure he’ll wait to build up any buzz until we’re a little closer.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way of life, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as antiquated.”
Superman stars David Corenswet like Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan like Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult like Lex Luthor; Nathan’s son like Green Lantern; Isabella Merced like Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; Maria Gabriella of Faria like Angela Spica, known as The Engineer; Sarah Sampaiolike Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore like Otis.
Superman will launch the theatrical portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
