John Cena Talks His Scrapped COYOTE VS. ACME, Says He ‘Respects’ the Film’s Shelving Path

While most of the creative team behind Coyote vs ACME criticized Warner Bros.’ decision to cancel the film, John Cena sees things differently and respects the studio’s decision to shelve the film after its completion.

Speaking to The Wrap, Cena said, “There’s a lot to say. And everyone’s perspective is different. We don’t own the movie. That’s the hard part of this business, you have a sense of ownership because you’re investing your heart and soul.

“AND [director] Dave Green and everybody else involved, we made what we thought was a good movie… but at the end of the day, that’s the business of filmmaking. I understand and respect the business path of shelving the movie, I completely understand that.’

“I would have liked to have given him a chance. But I’m just one person. If he had been shelved, I would have had to think it was for the right reasons and a good business decision.

“I think I would feel enormous regret and shame if, looking back on the legacy of the film, I found that it was shelved for reasons other than that.”

“So I have to believe in the process. I love the film, I put my heart and soul into it, but it’s someone else’s project and they can do what they want with it and they’ve chosen accordingly.”

Cena has been in this business a long time, but he seems very inexperienced here. WB has passed up a number of film and TV projects for tax breaks instead of allowing them to be seen. That is exactly what is happening here.

Coyote Vs. ACME wasn’t shelved for the “right reasons”, it was shelved out of pure Hollywood greed. Also, the Hollywood process is something you shouldn’t believe in because many of the people who run it make the worst decisions.

Coyote vs. Acme actor It will be strong (Saturday night live, Nebraska) previously explained: “I know many of you haven’t had the chance to see our film. And sadly, it looks like you never will.

“When I first heard that our film was being ‘cancelled,’ I hadn’t seen it yet. So I thought what everyone else must have thought: This thing must be a piece of garbage. But then I saw it. And it’s incredible.”

Forte continued to rave about the film, saying, “Super funny from start to finish, visually stunning, sweet, heartfelt and emotionally touching in a very deserved way.

“As the credits rolled, I sat there thinking about how lucky I was to be a part of something so special. That quickly turned to confusion and frustration. This was the movie they weren’t going to release?

“Look, when it comes to Hollywood business, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie gets a great response (like ours did), there’s no guarantee it’s going to be a success. And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it.

“It doesn’t mean I have to like him (I fucking hate him). Or agree with him. And it doesn’t mean this movie is anything less than magnificent.”

Forte concludes his note: “You would be so proud of this: a film that should be seen, but will not be. Know that all the years and years of hard work, dedication and love you put into this film shows in every frame. That’s all folks, Will Forte.”

The demolition of Coyote vs. Acme has raised the ire of Hollywood, particularly the animation community (Phil Lord and Chris Miller) to the Oscar-winning composer for the film Steven Price (who collected a trophy for another Warner Bros. film, Severity.
