Charlize Theron is set to star in a new genre thriller coming out on Netflix titled Apex. He will also produce the project, which will be directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, adrift).
The story is described as “Only free meet The Silence of the Lambs and follows a climber who finds herself hunted in the wilderness.”
This looks like an intriguing story and another great character for Theron to play! I’m sure she’ll give another great performance with some tough guy elements.
My Friend Jeremy Robbins write the script, and it is explained that the development of this film is a “rare case in the current state of the industry, as many studios are looking for a big flashy package full of talent before coming on board.”
In case of Apex“Netflix executives were so blown away by the script that they bought it with only the producers on board. When it came to an actor and director, Theron and Kormakur were their first choices, and in another rare instance, both committed after reading the script.”
The report goes on to say that, “At a time when sequels still dominate the release schedule, Apex It’s an example of a great original story that continues to attract world-famous names who want to be a part of it.”
This is one of the upcoming original film projects that seems worth getting excited about. It’s a shame it won’t get a wide theatrical release.
