Director Doug Liman Says He and Tom Cruise Still Talk About an EDGE OF TOMORROW Sequel, Says ‘We Love That World’

It looks like we’ll be getting a lot of updates on a sequel that may or may not ever happen. Fans of the 2014 action film The limit of tomorrow We’ve long wondered if we’d get to see a second film in the saga, and the film’s stars have always had positive things to say about the possibility.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the director Doug Liman revealed that Warner Bros. constantly asks him to do a sequel. Now Liman says he and Tom Cruise I rewatched the film recently and I still think that, ten years later, the story still has a lot to offer.

In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Liman was asked if The Limit of Tomorrow 2 he died, and he said:

“No, we still talk about it. We love that world. Tom and I just re-watched it about two months ago, because I hadn’t seen it in 10 years. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a really good movie.'”

Liman, Cruise, and co-star Emily Blunt have all expressed their continued interest in making Edge of Tomorrow 2 in the 10 years since the original film was released.

The 2014 film is based on the novel all you need is to kill Of Hiroshi Sakurazaka and stars Cruise as a soldier who relives the same day over and over again as he tries to prevent an alien invasion from wiping out humanity.

The film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing $370 million worldwide, but continued to be a hit with action fans.

“I haven’t always been fortunate enough to have films that have had big opening weekends,” Liman told Empire.Bourne Identity lost to Scooby-Doo [on] its opening weekend. And Swingers they were coming and going from the theaters. What I realized is that I make films for the long haul.

“I’m a self-centered guy, I would love to get recognition now. But I also recognize that, if I were given the chance, I would choose to make films that people will still be watching in 50 years.”

Warner Bros. announced in 2019 that it was officially developing a The Limit of Tomorrow 2but there have been no concrete updates since. Cruise recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop films, which has led many fans to wonder if that will include a sequel.

Emily Blunt has appeared on Variety podcast “Awards Circuit” last December and revealed that he continued to talk to Liman about a sequel.

“Doug and I talk about it all the time,” Blunt said. “I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it’s a timing thing, but it’s also been 10 years since we did it… There was a great script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we had shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that old, but you have to consider that it’s been 10 years.”
