We’re finally on our way to seeing the resolution of Daredevil’s story in the next renewed series. Daredevil: Rebornwhich will pick up after the events of the Netflix series Daredevil, as well as the shows Hawk eye, Echo AND She Hulkwhich featured the characters Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
The actors who play these characters, Charles Cox AND Vincent D’OnofrioThey recently met to talk about the new series during Fan Expo Boston 2024.
CinemaBlend reports that during the panel (which can be viewed here on YouTube), the two were asked explicitly if they had any run-ins with the powers that be prior to the creative revamp.
D’Onofrio initially held his tongue with humor, while Cox shared some insight: “Here’s what I’ll say. Marvel has been incredibly open-minded and willing to course-correct, and incredibly supportive.
“At the beginning, we were trying something a little bit different, and very quickly they were able to identify that maybe it wasn’t working as well as it could have. And where we are now, I think I can speak for both of us when I say we feel very, very happy.
Vincent D’Onofrio finally added his thoughts. While discussing the changes, he opened up about how he and his co-star supported each other throughout the process. And, according to his statements, he and his on-screen nemesis played a big role in shaping this latest iteration of the Man Without Fear story:
“The best thing about the situation, I have to say, is what Charlie just said about the heads of Marvel and also the fact that Charlie and I were a team and we supported each other in everything we wanted, whether we were on the scene or not.
“It didn’t matter if it was introducing our characters. As a team, Charlie and I were considering the story and the fans. Literally, I kid you not. You guys, we were constantly considering you and constantly pulling you out. And also, the work that had to be done that day or writing another thing that was coming up. We were constantly together in [every] way.
It seems like they’ve been able to fine-tune the new show and polish it to make it a better series for the fans. I appreciate that. We’ve waited a long time to see this series come to fruition and I’m excited to see what they have in store for us.
The new series is said to be inspired by Kingdom of the devil plot, which explores the power dynamics between the Kingpin and the vigilantes who oppose him. The story revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who becomes mayor of New York City.
In this story arc, Kingpin uses his newfound political influence to launch a crackdown on vigilantes, making their activities illegal. This leads to a fierce confrontation between Daredevil and Kingpin, with the latter using all of his resources to hunt down and eliminate Daredevil and his allies.
In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, the series also features Jon Bernthal like Frank Castle / The Punisher, Vanessa Fisk, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, by Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, The Artist FroushanAND Clark Johnson in undisclosed roles. Deborah Ann Woll AND Elden Henson Karen Page and Foggy Nelson will also reprise their roles.
