GI Joe is getting a brand new comic book series from Skybound that promises to “introduce a bold new vision of G.I. Joe and Cobra.”
The project comes from the writer Joshua Williamsonwho wrote many of the GI Joe limited series that set the stage for the new ongoing title. It will be drawn by Tom Reilly with colors of Jordie Bellairethe art team on Williamson’s Duke limited series.
The comic looks to pick up where the publisher’s Duke and Cobra Commander series left off, with both prominent characters bringing together new versions of their respective organizations.
The description reads: “Conrad Hauser, codename DUKE, has assembled a special force known as G.I. Joe to combat the growing power of the mysterious COBRA following the arrival of the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth. But the enigmatic Cobra Commander has unleashed the power of Energon like never before!”
“Featuring the first appearance of a COMPLETELY NEW character and a host of familiar faces, this is the comic that will change everything you thought you knew about G.I. Joe… and that’s just half the surprises that await you!”
Williamson said in a statement: “Finally! The team is united! The response to the miniseries leading up to this moment has been phenomenal, it’s been exciting to see longtime fans of the iconic series and new readers come together to support GI Joe “. in the Energon Universe.”
He continued: “What came before was just a glimpse of the vast world full of action and drama we are bringing with the new ongoing series. Now it’s time to amplify the story as the new GI Joe and Cobra meet for the first time!
“Our first issue shakes up the Energon universe in a big way with big moments we’ve been dying to unleash. Tom and Jordie are rocking and heating up every page. You won’t want to miss GI Joe #1. Yo Joe!”
Skybound founder Robert Kirkman said, “I love it when a plan comes together. With the groundwork in place, Skybound is ready to expand the Energon universe with an ongoing GI Joe series.
“Duke, Cobra Commander, Scarlett, and Destro were just a taste of what’s to come. Now Josh, Tom, and the team are bringing us a new vision of these beloved characters that will stand alongside Transformers and Void Rivals as cornerstones of the Energon Universe!”
