Here’s a trailer for a crazy sci-fi comedy called The Hyperboreanand the story revolves around an exploding ice mummy!
In the film, “A whiskey magnate summons his controversial family to taste his historic product: 170-year-old Scotch barrels salvaged from a ghost ship in the Canadian Arctic. From beyond the land of ice and snow comes… The Hyperborean!
“When a savvy crisis manager (Justin Bott) inserts himself directly into a dysfunctional family and their faltering whiskey company, he must navigate a public relations nightmare involving a triple murder, an Arctic ice mummy and an array of intergalactic liquors ”.
I had the chance to see this movie while I was at the FilmQuest Film Festival this year, and it was a lot of fun!
In my review I wrote: “This fantastic film plays with some incredibly bizarre and ambitious concepts, but more importantly, it has heart, especially when it comes to family dynamics.
“The film is full of strange and colorful characters and you can tell that the production team had fun developing those characters and this story. One of the things I liked most about the film is the lore it builds and explores with the Hyperboreans.”
The film comes from the director Jesse Thomas Cookwhich he shared in a statement: “After 13 horror films and tackling zombies, creature features, cults, haunted houses, etc., one of the remaining subgenres I had yet to explore was the almost forgotten mummy film.
“I have always been fascinated by the disastrous Franklin Expedition of 1845 and the discovery of its preserved ice mummies. We based the creature design in The Hyperborean on one of Franklin’s mummies buried on Beechey Island.
“This is our very Canadian ice mummy film and we are thrilled to be working with Freestyle for the U.S. release!”

The Hyperborean will be released directly to VOD on July 19, 2024.
