Marvel Comics has announced that it will end the current mainline Star Wars titles, Star Wars AND Darth Vader. They’ll close this fall at issue 50 with large issues capping the stories.
The stories in these comics were set in the time between the films The empire strikes again AND Return of the Jedi.
Marvel promises “final twists in the saga for key characters like Luke, Leia, Sabé, Ochi, the droid ZED-6-7, Sly Moore, members of the Imperial Schism, and more!”
After these comics end, Marvel will relaunch the Star Wars comics with a different setting, but there’s no information on the direction those stories will go.
Artist Leinil Francis Yu will provide the main covers of both issues, while Giuseppe Camuncoli created a couple of variant covers for Star Wars n.50 AND Darth Vader n. 50. I’ve included those below for you to check out.
Here is the description for Star Wars #50:
“In Charles Soule AND By Madibek Musabekov STAR WARS #50, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker must teach his student Ben Solo a powerful lesson about the true balance between Light and Darkness!
“It offers a story from the times of the Rebel Alliance that touches on different eras of Star Wars history and brings this epic ride to a thrilling and incredible climax!”
Here is the description of Darth Vader n. 50:
“Acclaimed writer Greg Pak closes the longest running Darth Vader comic series ever seen alongside the artist Raffaele Ienco and more in STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #50.
“Pak’s journey reaches its extraordinary conclusion as the Dark Heart of the Sith comes full circle! Darth Vader finally unleashes the unfathomable power he has amassed through the Imperial Schism against the one person in the galaxy he hates more than he hates himself: Emperor Palpatine!
Star Wars n.50 will go on sale September 11th, followed by Darth Vader #50 on September 18th. Marvel promises more information on what’s to come in the coming weeks.
