Just because The boys will end with the fifth season, it doesn’t mean the franchise won’t continue. Creator and showrunner of the series Eric Kripke confirmed that the franchise will continue and grow Gen V and other spin-offs.
When it comes to the future of The boys franchise, Kripke explained, “I think they can and should continue. The boys the story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only continue like this for a certain period.
He continued: “So what I would say is that this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and twisted enough to allow for those stories. ” .
“So, hopefully, Gen V continues, hopefully, a couple of other things we have in development continue.”
Gen V is proof that, if done right, these spin-offs could be great shows! The other spin-off series currently in development is The boys: Mexico but that show is also still far from going into production.
Kripke spoke about the spinoffs, saying one of the main things they need to see is whether the show is strong enough to stand on its own, as if the main series didn’t exist.
He said: “I really don’t want people to feel like they have to watch one [show] to understand the other. I never want it to feel like homework or required viewing. I think this has hurt Marvel in a way, and I don’t want to do that.
There are so many directions this franchise could go in and it will be interesting to see what other stories and characters it explores.
What are some ideas you have for spin-off projects The boys?
