When Transformers One was announced for the first time. I was really excited about the possibilities of what the film could be! I was expecting to see the badass Transformers movie that hardcore fans like me have been waiting for.
Then the first trailer was released and I was confused and disappointed by the tone and direction the creative team took. But perhaps there’s more to the film than meets the eye.
The film recently screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and, according to Deadline, was greeted with a “rousing standing ovation when the lights went up, and there was excited and appreciative chatter as moviegoers filed out of the auditorium “.
So even if the first trailer wasn’t the best first impression, maybe the movie will actually deliver something great. We’ll just have to wait and see. My expectations right now are very low, so it might be better than I expect.
Speaking previously about the trailer, Cooley explained: “The trailer definitely brings the comedy and shows the fun these characters have together. Which was actually very easy to do. We didn’t want to make a comedy, but to make a film for everyone.”
He continued, “And the characters were easy to work with because they were so clearly defined. But even with our actors, there was a lot of improvisation in this. … The beginning of the movie definitely has that.”
While the film will contain a good amount of comedy, the director also explained that it will also contain real danger. He said: “But there are real stakes that we don’t show yet in the trailer that has the epic scale, adventure and action that we know from the Transformers films.”
He added: “There is a lot of danger. There is real danger in this film. Yes. And there’s always that, as we said before, that time bomb of when this relationship will fall apart between Orion and D-16.
This film tells the “origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers in arms to becoming sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.”
The film is the protagonist Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry like D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson like Elita-1 e Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 / Bumblebee.
Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura he previously said, “This is… the origin story of young Megatron and young Optimus. If you know the origin, they started out as friends and over time things went their way and they ended up on two sides.
“So we’re telling the story of young Optimus and young Megatron. We’re really telling the origin story of all the Transformers, both who they were in the beginning, how they grow up, and how they grow apart.”
This will be the first of what Di Bonaventura calls a “natural trilogy” and will explore “Cybertron in a way that you’ve never seen it, that nobody’s ever seen before.”
