Some details on the history of Marvel Lightning* movies have been shared online, and if the information is authentic, it gives us an idea of what we can expect from the movie setup.
There’s nothing too revealing about the story, it’s basically the setup for the movie and something that could be included in a trailer, but I’ll still throw out a spoiler warning just in case.
This latest tidbit comes from reliable scooper Daniel Richtman, and he says the story will begin with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), US agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) sent by Countess Valentina Allegra De Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to eliminate an unknown target “in a vault”.
It is unknown who the target is, but in the midst of the mission, the crew realize that they have been sent there to be killed, and after escaping the ordeal, they decide to team up to take down Val.
As for Sentry (Lewis Pullmann), Red Guardian (Davide Porto) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastiano Stan) will fit into the story, the information hasn’t been shared, but it’s easy to imagine how they might end up getting involved.
It had already been said previously Lightning* it’s “just a sequel to Black Widow in the same way Civil war it was a sequel to Captain America… Yelena deals with the remains of the Red Room and then gets distracted Lightning*.”
The film is directed by Jake Schreier (Paper cities, joke) and was written by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) AND Kurt Busiek.
Lightning* it is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
