Review: IF is a beautifully crafted film, fueled by a sincere imagination

As I sat and watched John Krasinskithe latest cinematic adventure of SELF, I found myself transported into a story overflowing with imagination and heart. This movie is an absolute delight and by the time the credits rolled, I was smiling from ear to ear.

One of the most extraordinary qualities of SELF it’s the overwhelming joy it transmits. The story he tells is a feel-good narrative that fills you with happiness and inspiration. It’s been a while since a movie made me feel so totally uplifted.

As someone who has always felt like a child at heart, this film reinvigorated that youthful part of me. There were moments that tugged at my emotions, making me laugh and even, at times, found myself holding back tears.

SELF tells the story of a young girl who embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs, or Imaginary Friends, with their children. This story comes to life beautifully and strikes a perfect balance between playfulness and depth.

Ryan Reynolds he leads the cast with his signature charm, and is joined by an incredible ensemble including John Krasinskiwho also directed the film, Cailey FlemingAND Fiona Shaw.

The film also boasts a wonderful voice cast which includes Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Maya Rodolfo, Sam Rockwell, Sebastiano Maniscalco, Cristoforo Meloni, Richard JenkinsAND Awkwafina. Each cast member brings something special to the film and its characters.

While I watch SELF, I couldn’t help but think of my children, who have grown out of the phase of watching children’s movies like this with me. It’s bittersweet because I know they would have loved this movie if they weren’t in full teen mode.

This film is perfect for children and I found myself wishing I could share the experience of watching it with them in their youth.

Speaking previously about the film, Krasinski said he wanted to make a film that children could enjoy in the same way he enjoyed watching it. ET AND The Goonies when he was growing up. He succeeded.

SELF is a wonderful, delightful film that audiences of all ages will love. It is a moving and inspiring film that reminds us of the power of imagination and the importance of holding on to our inner child.

John Krasinski has made a film that is sure to become a beloved classic and I can’t recommend it enough.
