WICKED has a new trailer for fans to enjoy

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for its upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Evil. This gives fans their best look yet Jon M. Chu-directed film and it seems like he made a beautiful film.

The three-time Tony Award-winning musical was adapted from a book by Gregory Maguireand is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It tells the story of how the green-skinned Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as the sorceress Glinda’s path to becoming known as the Good Witch.

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, protagonist Cinzia Erivo (HarrietBroadway The color purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood due to her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastic Land of Oz and form an unlikely but profound friendship. After meeting the wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths.

Glinda’s constant desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself and those around her will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future.

Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will finally see them fulfill their destiny as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The film is also the protagonist Michelle Yeoh as the regal headmistress of Shiz University, Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Traveling Companions) as Fiyero, a mischievous and carefree prince; Ethan Slater (Broadway Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, a selfless Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favorite sister; AND Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two of Glinda’s conniving compatriots played Bowen Yang (Saturday night live) AND Bronwyn James (Prostitutes), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Keala Settle (The greatest showman).

Chu will direct the film in two parts, from a screenplay written by the author of the stage show’s book Vinci Holzman and composer-lyricist Stefano Schwartz.

Speaking about the two-part film, Chu said: “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Evil movies but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Evil as it was meant to be told, bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.

Wicked: Part 1 will debut exclusively in theaters on Friday, November 27, 2024.
