Here’s a great CG animated sci-fi short film to watch today titled The confession of an alchemist. The short was written and directed by Cory Williams and used Unreal Engine 5 to bring his story to life in just five days.
Williams shared: “On Wednesday September 20th I found some really cool resources on the Unreal Engine Marketplace that I wanted to do something cool with. So I downloaded them, set up a scene, and optimized the characters for motion capture within Character Creator 4 and iClone 8.
“The next day I wrote the script and posted a screenshot of the new project on LinkedIn. Then on Friday I recorded the audio and motion capture and exported the data from iClone 8 to Unreal Engine 5.
“As I was taking off my Xsens suit, I received a message from Mark Otim on LinkedIn who had seen the screenshot I had posted earlier and was asking if I wanted help with the sound design. His reel was awesome and I love collaborating with other artists, so of course I brought him with me.
“Then, a few minutes later, Angel Roché Jr. contacted me and asked me the same thing, but he had offered to create an original score. His reel was fantastic and I would be a fool to turn down someone like him.
“So I made introductions and the three of us got busy. Angel and Mark spent the next few days making great audio while I spent more time focusing on animation and other visual effects within Unreal Engine. Then on Tuesday evening we had the finished piece.”
