First look at images from Bruce Timm’s BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER and a summary of the story

Prime Video has released some first look images from Bruce Timmthe next animated series by Batman: Caped Crusader.

We previously shared some of these images, but they have since been removed at the request of Prime Video. So some of the photos below will look familiar to you.

Characters featured include Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Catwoman, Natalia Knight, Clay Face, Gentleman Ghost, Onomatopoeia and Renee Montoya.

The photos are accompanied by the following story summary: “Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals are rampant, and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear.

“Forged in the fires of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something more and less than human: BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions generate deadly and unforeseen consequences.”

This animated series has been in development for some time with Timm, JJ Abrams, Matt Reevesand comic book writer Ed Brubaker leading the charge.

The show is said to capture what Timm originally wanted to do with the original animated series, saying, “It kind of goes back to the original principles of the show that we originally came up with in the early ’90s.

“There were some limitations on what we could do in terms of adult content; in terms of violence and adult themes.” He continued, “My idea is basically to say, ‘OK, it’s 1990 again, I can do what I want to do this time, and I’ve got JJ and Matt backing me up. . on.”

Abrams said it Batman: Caped Crusader“Really is an incredibly complex psychological story about someone who, in a way, needs to be redeemed – and that’s pretty much what this first season is about at least.”

The series was written by acclaimed comic book writer Ed Brubaker, who said: “Their take on the show, with a slightly meatier approach to the character and a new way of looking at the world of Gotham, set in the past but seen through a modern lens has really sold me, and so far it’s been a blast working on every part of it.

“I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what we’ve built over the past few months in the writers’ room. All I can say is, it’s not what anyone expects… but in a good way.”

Reeves explained that the show will focus on a version of Batman who is completely alone on his journey, saying, “There’s no Justice League. Gotham’s cesspool is Batman, alone.”

It was also explained that Batman won’t have all of his gadgets as the show takes place before a time when he started investing money in those things. “So it’s going to be very low-tech initially. You know, as he develops as a character, we’ll start introducing those gadgets and the audience will be able to see how he developed the Batmobile using different prototypes.

“Part of the fun of this series is that we find him discovering these things that, [in] most of the other Batman series were already there.”

The series has landed a two-season order on Amazon.
