Director Danny Boyle he threw Jack O’Connell (Uninterrupted) in his next film 28 years laterwhich is the first of a trilogy of films set in a world overrun by Zombies.
O’Connell joins the previous cast Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson AND Ralph Fiennes. Boyle will direct the first film from a screenplay by Alex Garland.
It is said that O’Connell will play more of a supporting character in the first film and more of a leading role in the second.
The original film centered on a bicycle courier (Cilian Murphy) who awakens from a coma to discover that the world has been invaded by zombies following an outbreak of a virus.
There are no plot details to share yet, but Garland previously offered some insight into the film’s theme. She shared, “It has to do with the passage of time and thinking about what effect the passage of time would have.”
He added: “Is this what you would traditionally call a post-apocalyptic state? Or has something else started to manifest itself? Time is really at the heart of the film’s engine.”
Previously, when teasing the third film, Garland said, “I have a really interesting idea, but it’s a much bigger movie, and one of the things that 28 days later it’s that it was small and punk and this idea is less small and punk.”
Boyle will direct the first film in the trilogy The wonders director Nia Da Costa he is in talks to direct the second.
