TRANSFORMERS ONE Director Addresses Comedic Tone, But Also Says There’s ‘Real Danger’ in Film

When the Transformers One trailer was released, fans of the franchise were taken aback by the film’s strange, childish comedic tone. It’s not what any of us expected.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, director Josh Cooley addressed the comedic tone of the trailer and explained that when they decided to make this film, it wasn’t to make a comedy. But here’s what it looked like!

Cooley explained: “The trailer definitely introduces comedy and shows how much fun these characters have together. Which was actually very easy to do. We didn’t want to make a comedy, but to make a film for everyone.”

He continued, “And the characters were easy to work with because they were so clearly defined. But even with our actors, there was a lot of improvisation in this. … The beginning of the movie definitely has that.”

While the film will feature a good amount of comedy, the director also explained that it will also feature real dangers. He said: “But there are real stakes that we don’t show yet in the trailer that has the epic scale, adventure and action that we know from the Transformers films.”

He added: “There is a lot of danger. There is real danger in this film. Yes. And there’s always that, as we said before, that time bomb of when this relationship will fall apart between Orion and D-16.

We’ll just have to wait and see how the film’s story unfolds. That first trailer, however, did nothing to get me excited about watching the film. I’m also not a fan of the animation and art style.

I’ll watch the film because I’m curious to see if it will win me over. My expectations are low, however, which means it can meet or exceed them.

This film tells the “origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers in arms to becoming sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.”

The film is the protagonist Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry like D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson like Elita-1 e Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 / Bumblebee.

Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura previously said: “This is… the origin story of young Megatron and young Optimus. If you know the origin, they started out as friends and over time things went their way and they ended up on two sides.

“So we’re telling the story of young Optimus and young Megatron. We’re really telling the origin story of all the Transformers, both who they were in the beginning, how they grow up, and how they grow apart.”

This will be the first of what Di Bonaventura calls a “natural trilogy” and will explore “Cybertron in a way that you’ve never seen it, that nobody’s ever seen before.”

Jon Hamm he is also in the film and will voice Sentinel Prime. The film will be released on September 20, 2024.
