Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga producer Douglas Mitchell is teasing an insanely epic 15-minute sequence in the George Miller-direct film, and is very important for understanding Anya Taylor-Gioiathe character of Furiosa. I’ve also included some new photos from the movie!
Mitchell tells Total Film that the 15-minute sequence took “78 days to shoot” and that there were even 200 stuntmen working on that scene every day! It’s a really huge undertaking, but they managed to do it, and I can’t. I can’t wait to watch it on the big screen!
Taylor-Joy went on to offer some insights into the sequence and explained why it’s so important to the film and her character, saying, “George and I would have these great conversations about why this particular scene was so long.”
He added: “It’s because you see an accumulation of skill over the course of a battle, and that’s very important in understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit.”
The actress continued: “It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. The day we finished, everyone got a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine!’”
Plus, another fun little detail was revealed: Taylor-Joy still doesn’t have a driver’s license, despite learning how to do a J-turn on her first day of stunt school for the film.
In the film, “As the world fell apart, young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great horde of bikers led by the warlord Dementus.
“Crossing the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by Immortal Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she scrapes together the means to find her way home.”
Miller previously spoke about the film and revealed that the story takes place over the course of 15 years and leads directly to the events of Mad Max: Road Fury.
Miller shared, “The story is the saga of Furiosa, and how she gets taken away from home and spends the rest of her life trying to get back. [In] Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights. This film follows the story directly from Fury Road, for 15 years.”
He continued, “It’s a different animal. It has many different positions. It’s an odyssey. No questions asked.” As for a possible appearance by Max Rockatansky himself, Miller said: “I won’t give too much away about it. All I’ll say is that Max is lurking in the background.”
It’s also in the cast Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy HulmeAND Quaden Bayles.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
