Over the years there have been a few attempts to develop a film adaptation of Rob Liefeldthe Avengelyne comic series. The last attempt sees Olivia Wilde (Don’t worry darling) attached to direct.
Margot Robbie he is producing the film through his production company LuckyChap Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamaraAND Simone Kinberg. Even a major A-list writer is trying to fit in.
Deadline says the initial plan was for this Robbie to be the lead, but his portrayal is negating that part. So, we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
The film was previously described as John Wick but with a fallen angel. Avenger was originally published in 1995 and in it Avengelyne fights the forces of evil and often comes face to face with demons and monsters.
She was the most feared warrior of Heaven’s Warhost, “having entered alone into Pandemonium, Hell’s outer fortress, to face the Devil himself. He is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for human beings.”
Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, “aside from her great strength and her blood, which, when extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or as a miracle when empowered by quoting Bible verses. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on earth and is groomed to be humanity’s last hope in the coming Armageddon.
When Liefeld was developing the film years ago, when the MMA fighter became an actress Gina Carano was to star in the film, he explained why he wanted to bring Avengelyne to the big screen: “Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with audiences because its story of redemption is so relatable.”
She continued: “A fallen angel, condemned to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth being a foreign environment to her, she must adapt to save herself and humanity. Her dilemma provides humor in the context of the larger plot that drives her journey.
This could make for a really badass movie and it will be cool to see what Wilde does with it! What do you think about Wild directing Avengelyn? Who would you like to see starring in the film?
