The first trailer for has been released Johnny Depp’s French historical drama, Jeanne du Barry. The story is set in 1768 France and the film is advertised as “based on an untold true story”.
Depp stars in the film as King Louis XV, a writer and director Maiwenn she also stars in the film alongside Depp as Jeanne du Barry. The trailer features the two characters meeting for the first time at the court of Versailles.
Jeanne du Barry is Louis XV’s last royal mistress at the Court of Versailles, after Madame de Pompadour. “Born into poverty, she is a young working-class woman hungry for culture and pleasure who uses her intelligence and charm to climb one rung of the social ladder one after another.”
She became “Louis XV’s favorite companion. Unaware of her status as a courtesan, she regains the will to live thanks to their relationship. They fall madly in love. Against all propriety and etiquette, Jeanne moves to Versailles, where her arrival scandalises the court.
As you’ll see in the trailer, the set design is beautiful and it looks like Depp and the rest of the cast will deliver great performances.
It also includes the ensemble cast of the costume drama Benjamin Lavernhe in the role of Jean-Benjamin de La Borde, Peter Richard in the role of Louis François Armand, Melvil Poupaud in the role of Count Guillaume du Barry, India hair like Adelaide of France, Susanne de Baecque like Victoria of France, Capucine Valmary like Louise of France, Paolina Polmann in the role of Marie Antoinette, Micha Lescot in the role of Florimond Claude, Laura Le Velly like Sophie de France and many others.
Jeanne du Barry will be released in select theaters on May 2.
