Some new photos have emerged from the set of Max’s next film The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin. These photos and a video are the protagonists Colin Farrell sports a comic-accurate costume, a fur-lined coat that has become synonymous with the DC villain over the years.
The eight-episode series focuses on Penguin’s rise as the new boss of Gotham City. He has been described as a “Scarface-like” and the story “will pick up days after the end of The Batman, exploring the moves Cobblepot makes in the power vacuum left by Carmine Falcone’s departure”
Speaking previously about the film, Farrell said: “I think it’s going to be an eight-parter for HBO about Oz’s rise to power, filling that power vacuum that was created when Falcone was killed. opaque [Reeves]’S The idea originally was to have the Penguin show start about a week after the Batman movie ended. And then, if it works, if the trajectory is interesting enough and if the audience accepts it and we do our job well, we have the second movie – Penguin in the second movie and we’ll pick up where the HBO show ends.
During another interview, Farrell shared that he read the first script and teased what we can expect from the series’ opening scene, sharing, “Gotham is still a little underwater. I read the first script for the first episode and it opens with my feet splashing in the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that, I read it and thought, ‘Oh, man.’”
The series also stars Farrell Cristina Miliotiwho plays the female protagonist Sofia Falcone, and Rhenzy Feliz, who plays a teenager who the Penguin befriends and makes him his driver. The rest of the cast includes Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Jack Ryan), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House of Sand and Fog) AND Deirdre O’Connell (External range).
Lauren LeFranc will serve as writer and showrunner on the series and, speaking about it, said: “I have long been a fan of the world of The Batman, and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I’m excited and honored to continue telling stories in the dark world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than telling the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I’m excited to work with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.”
Production of the limited series will take place in New York. It doesn’t have a release date yet. Check out the photos below:
