Obi-Wan Kenobi’s star Ewan McGregor recently opened up about his time in the Star Wars franchise. He shared his reluctance to initially take on the role of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. She also talked about what it was like for him when the film was criticized by fans. McGregor also offered an update on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, which doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, which many fans were totally disappointed with. I remember being so excited about that movie and then walking out of the theater wondering what the hell happened. However, I liked that lightsaber fight scene with Darth Maul at the end! I appreciate the prequel trilogy a lot more now, especially after how messy the sequel trilogy was.
Speaking to Variety, McGregor admitted that he was initially “very reluctant” to play the young Obi-Wan Kenobi. he said: “It wasn’t something that was made for me. I didn’t think that was who I was at all. I believed, at that point, that I was a Danny Boyle actor. The beach it was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t disrespectful. I asked a lot of people for advice.”
As you know, Boyle ended up dumping McGregor for Leonardo Dicaprio ON The beachand for years there was bad blood between the actor and the director.
McGregor went on to talk about how the film was received, saying, “I’m happy to be this character to a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. It was hard. The first one was panned.” and we still had to do two more! It was strange to be in a hammered movie.”
Even though it was tough for him all those years, McGregor returned to reprise his role in the Disney+ series, and he had a blast making it. Speaking about the possibility of a second season, the actor said: “I would love to do a second season, but there’s no talk about it yet. There’s a lot going on at Disney.”
While the actors would all like to continue theirs Star Wars voyage, Kathleen Kennedy and director Deborah Chow they are not committed to making this happen. McGregor had previously said: “I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again. I hope we get the chance to do it again.”
As for what Kennedy thinks of season two, he said, “I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we’ll end up doing something that will be incorporated into some of the other stories we’re doing, or possibly into a movie , but who knows? But for now, it’s still our standard limited series. We have no expansion plans at this time.”
When Chow talked about the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he said: “For this, we really conceived it to be a limited series. It’s really a great story with a beginning, a middle and an end. So we weren’t thinking any further. I think if it were to go forward it would only be if there was a real reason for another.
There are some fans who would like to see a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but there’s really no reason for that to happen.
