Ryan Gosling shares his disappointment over Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig being snubbed at the Oscars

Both Ryan Gosling AND America Ferrera were nominated for their supporting roles in the past year Barbie hit. Unfortunately, director Greta Gerwig and the star of the film Margot Robbie they were snubbed. It’s pretty crazy that the Academy didn’t nominate them! I mean, Gosling was funny in the movie, but in my opinion he was the least deserving of a nomination.

It’s so funny to me how the Academy keeps saying that women need to be recognized for their work, especially in the directing arena. Then Gerwig comes along and makes an epic hit in Hollywood with her Barbie film, everyone expects her to get the nomination for best director and the Academy excludes her. So crazy.

Gosling recently released a statement sharing his disappointment with the Academy and its decision to nominate him for Best Supporting Actor, but then snubs his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig. He said:

“I’m extremely honored to be nominated by my peers alongside such amazing artists in a year of so many great films, and I never thought I’d say this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for playing a plastic doll character. named Ken. But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this historic and world-celebrated film.”

In addition to Gosling’s nomination, the film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, as well as securing two nominations for Best Original Song. Gosling went on to say:

“No recognition would be possible for the film’s protagonists without their talent, drive and genius. To say that I am disappointed that they were not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.

“Against all odds, with nothing more than a pair of soulless, scantily clad and, thankfully, horseless dolls, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, pushed culture and made history. The Their work should be recognized alongside that of other deserving nominees. That said, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this groundbreaking film.”

Since the Oscar for Best Picture always goes to a film’s producer, Robbie is still in the running for an Oscar for her role behind the camera, and Gerwig is still nominated for co-writing the film’s screenplay. But they still deserved the nominations for Best Actress and Best Director.
