Dakota Johnson talks MADAME WEB and how “psychotic” it is to shoot an action movie in front of a green screen

Dakota Johnson is on the press circuit promoting his next Marvel/Sony film, Mrs. Web, in which she plays the character Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to face revelations about her past, she forms relationships with three young women destined for a powerful future…if they can all survive a deadly present. She stars in the next film Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Mercede (Transformers: The Last Knight), AND Emma Roberts (American horror story), with Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), AND Adam Scott (Separation).

The film was the first superhero film on Johnson’s resume and was a new experience for her. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, she explained how much fun she had on set, doing some stunts, saying:

“I have to do a day of stunt driving and apparently I’m really good at it! I mean, I can do really crazy things with a car. I drove an ambulance. I drove a taxi. I drove everything in the movie except flying through the air and exiting a building. But other than that, I say, ‘Watch out, Tom Cruise.'”

She went on to talk about how she was initially skeptical about taking on the role, but was ultimately drawn to the character:

“I was sent this script and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to be a superhero.’ I was a little baffled by his powers. I thought, ‘Oh, I’d really like to see that superhero.’ I’d like to see a young woman whose superpower is her mind.’”

She then talked about how crazy it was to make a superhero movie, but she finally managed to accomplish her tasks with the help of her director, SJ Clarkson:

“I’ve never done a movie where you’re on a blue screen and there’s fake explosions and someone says, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. This to me was absolutely psychotic. I thought, “I don’t know if this is going to be any good!” I hope I did a good job!’ But I trusted her. She works so hard and she hasn’t taken her eyes off the film since we started.

Mrs. Web will be released in theaters on February 14th.
