Director Matthew Vaughn offered an update on Kick ass reboot and revealed that it will actually be the third film in a new trilogy he is developing.
The director has planned a reboot of Kick ass for a few years and had previously teased what he thought about that film. The original Kick-Ass movie was released ten years ago and introduced us to the characters Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, and Big Daddy.
He explained: “Kick-Ass kind of changed people’s perception of what a superhero movie was at the time. So we’re doing it again. So it’s not any of the characters from the other Kick-Ass. We’d love to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is going in a direction I can’t really talk about. But it’s funny.”
In a recent interview with Collider, Vaughn explained that his new film Kick-Ass, which will serve as a reboot, will actually be the third film in a new trilogy of films, which is an interesting approach for a reboot.
The trilogy begins with an action film titled School fight which will be produced by Vaughn and directed by the stunt coordinator turned director Damien Walters. Vaughn spoke about the film saying:
“The trilogy will be School Fight, this movie, let’s call it Vram for now, and then Kick-Ass, and they’re all connected.”
School Fight has already been shot and completed, and the second Vram film is currently in production. When asked if the plan was to make all three films before any of them were released. He said:
“No. So when this (VRAM) is done, I think it’s going to launch, I’m going to be conservative on that, if we’re lucky, Toronto, if we’re not lucky, Sundance. Well, this year, next year, if you know what I mean .”
I’m intrigued by this and it will be interesting to see how this trilogy develops and leads to the Kick-Ass reboot. We don’t have any other details to share about School Fight or Vram, but speaking previously about the Kick-Ass reboot, he said:
“We are halfway there. There is something very, very, dare I say… and it will be a cliché that comes out of this head of mine. It’s a very, very meta-universe. It’s what, you know, Kick-Ass was reinventing and creating an R-rated superhero and no one was really doing that. This is taking the whole concept to a worthy… not even a sequel because I think it’s just a whole new way of doing Kick-Ass, which couldn’t be more Kick-Ass.
What do you think of Vaughn’s trilogy plan leading up to the Kick-Ass reboot?
