Annette Bening (American beauty, Nyad) joined the cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal’S The Bride of Frankenstein film project, which will begin filming early this year. The film was originally set on Netflix, but after dropping it, the film was picked up by Warner Bros.
Bening joins the talented cast that includes Jessie Buckley, Cristiano Balla, Penelope CruzAND Peter Sarsgaard. Buckley is said to be the main star of the film, which is about Frankenstein’s journey to find love.
The first details of the story have also been shared, and this is the synopsis: “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the help of a Doctor Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She goes beyond what they both intended, sparking a combustible romance, attracting police attention and a wild, radical social movement.”
Deadline explains that Warner Bros. acquired the film because Motion Pictures Group co-presidents and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy “are looking to leverage the studio’s track record with female directors.” This comes after Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie became the studio’s highest-grossing film of all time.
Gyllenhaal is a talented director and I’m curious to see how her next film turns out.
