Toho had to approve Godzilla’s pink design in GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE

When that first trailer of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire success and fans were introduced to a new pink Godzilla, there was some backlash over the redesign. Being a long-time Godzilla fan, I personally wasn’t too keen on it. It’s not that I’m not a fan of pink – I’m the father of three girls, so pink has become a staple color in my life – I’m just a purist and I don’t think Godzilla looks good in pink.

Regardless of what fans think, Legendary Entertainment had to get permission from Toho to change the creature’s color, and Toho gave them permission.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Creature designer Jared Krichevsky confirmed that Legendary had to get Toho’s approval for Godzilla on X’s redesign, and you can check out his post below. This confirmation dismisses the argument that Legendary is taking too many liberties with the character.

The director of the film Adam Winger he previously offered an explanation as to why he went pink with Godzilla, saying, “Every time I talked to the visual artists, what I told them was, ‘I want the color palette of this movie to look like the experience of com ‘Was walking down a toy aisle in the ’80s when there were ThunderCats, GI Joe and Transformers.’ There was just this orgasmic feeling. So many colors and textures. That’s what I wanted to bring to this film. This new heightened reality. I wanted to find out: you can have that exaggerated experience in the toy aisle, but then find a way to ground it in reality?”

The director also spoke about this new version of Godzilla and said: “Very specifically in the last film, I wanted Godzilla to have continuity, to be similar to King of the Monsters and Godzilla from 2014, but then I didn’t do that. “I didn’t get the chance to make my version of Godzilla. So now I wanted to do different things with the plugs and try different colors. I didn’t want it to just be random; It’s part of the story.”

Ultimately, I think it all comes down to the movie’s merchandise. Below you’ll see some of the toy packaging, which is bursting with pink.

In the upcoming film, “The Epic Battle Continues! Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse film follows the explosive clash of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new adventure that pits the all-powerful Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal unknown threat hidden in our world, which puts their very existence… and ours to the test. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the stories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, uncovering the mythical battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and forever bind them to humanity.

The film is the protagonist Rebecca Sala (Godzilla vs. Kong), Brian Tyree Henry (Godzilla vs. Kong), Dan Stevens (Legion), Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong), Alex Felci (The Batman) AND Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters on April 12, 2024.
