After the enormous success of Godzilla minus one and audiences love the movie, fans were very eager to hear any news regarding a sequel. While I’m sure a sequel will be made one day, it won’t happen anytime soon as Toho is doing the smart thing and not rushing to release a new movie.
GQ Japan published an article on Godzilla minus one, and in it the film crew talked about the film’s success. During the interview, producer Minami Ichikawa talked about Godzilla’s future and said there’s no intention of rushing anything.
“I don’t feel the need to rush the next live-action film. Good films are all about quality. We want great ideas, a great script, a talented director and the right cast to work on them carefully.”
If only American studios cared enough about their films to do the same thing. There’s so much Hollywood could learn from how Toho handled Godzilla Minus One. They won’t, though. They will continue to release their big-budget tentpole films with half-baked scripts that feel like they were written by AI.
Meanwhile, Legendary Pictures will release its own Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire film, which will be a big budget Asylum style film compared to Godzilla minus one.
The film is set in Japan 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan was reduced to nothing. Godzilla appears and throws the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how – and with whom – will Japan resist?”
