Marvel Comics announced it X-Men ’97 is getting a new four-issue limited prequel series that will lead into the upcoming Disney+ animated series.
THE X-Men ’97 the comic comes from the writer Steve Foxe and artist Save Espin. Created in “close collaboration with the showrunners” of the animated series. The comic will inform fans about what the X-Men have been up to since the original X-Men animated series ended. Marvel Comics also teases “[s]shocking revelations” that “lead directly to the long-awaited new series”.
Foxe shared in a statement, “There’s a very good chance I wouldn’t be writing comics today if it weren’t for the impact X-Men: The Animated Series had on me as a kid — heck, the show’s voice actors are still the better.” voices I hear when I read comics today!”
He continued, “I’ll be reunited with my collaborator from X-MEN ’92: HOUSE OF XCII Save Espin in this official prelude to X-Men ’97 felt like a lifelong bucket list project, and Beau [DeMayo] and the rest of the ’97 team gave us fantastic runway to create our own original story that fits perfectly into what viewers will experience in the new season.
X-Men ’97 #1 will go on sale on March 27, 2024. As for the animated series, it will be released in 2024. In X-Men ’97, “Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto arrives and wants to step up to Charles Xavier . Sinister arrives to try to put an end to the X-Men once and for all.”
The series brings back the original voice cast included Cal Dodd (Glutton), Lenore Zann (Rascal), Giorgio Buzza (Beast), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Chris Potter (Gambitto), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler) e Christopher Britton (Left Minister).
