It was announced last year Steven Spielberg he was planning to direct an original film centered on Frank Bullitt. This classic movie character was originally played by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film Bullit AND Bradley Cooper he is set to star in the new film, which Spielberg plans to direct next.
This is a project I am very excited about and I thank Spielberg’s production partner Kristie Macosko Krieger, we have an update on the film to share with you. In that update, he says the film will be “extremely fun.” He told GamesRadar:
“I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the screenplay, are working on the story. I hope to have a script soon, as the writers’ strike has left us a bit behind. But they’re working on it – I couldn’t tell you if that’s the next movie we’ll make because I don’t know at this point. I think it’s going to be an incredibly fun movie.”
The original film was directed by Peter Yates, and was based on the 1963 novel Mute Witness. The film became McQueen’s most iconic role and he played a detective investigating the death of a mob informant he had been hired to protect. The film is famous for including one of the best and most thrilling car chases in cinematic history. McQueen also performed his stunts in the film with a modified Ford Mustang.
We have no plot details to share for the new film, but it will follow Bullitt on an all-new adventure.
Josh singer (La Poste, Spotlight) is set to write the screenplay. McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and grandson Molly McQueen they are also executive producers.
