James Gunn’S Superman: Legacy has a rather large cast and will introduce many DC superheroes, and since the film is overflowing with characters, fans are complaining. Gunn is now responding to those criticisms and comparing the film to Oppenheimer. He also reveals that these superheroes are getting more than just cameos.
When a fan on Threads pointed out that previous Superman films only featured Kal-El as the protagonist, Gunn responded by saying, “We’re not those movies. We’re us.”
He went on to reveal that “none of [the superhero] the roles are cameos,” and also made it clear that there will be more casting to come: “What movie with a single protagonist doesn’t have more than ten speaking roles?” asked Gunn. “There will be more.”
A fan pointed this out Oppenheimer it’s a movie with a main character surrounded by a large supporting cast, to which Gunn said, “Yes! That’s right. Basically a single-lead movie with way more characters than we have.”
James Gunn is no stranger to working with large casts after directing such films Guardians of the Galaxy AND The suicide squad, so having many characters in one film isn’t a new or surprising thing to see from Gunn. The director is a great storyteller and I’m confident he will make a great Superman movie!
Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The film is currently starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo like Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.
Superman: Legacy will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
