Julia Stiles reenacts the memorable “10 Things I Hate About You” scene

Julia Stiles recently based herself on a popular character from her past and seemed pretty shocked by the script all these years later.

Earlier this week, Stiles was at the Mash-Up Americans Book Festival in New York City to revive Katarina “Kat” Stratford from the 1999 hit film 10 Things I Hate About You. In the big-screen teen romantic comedy, Kat Patrick reads a “hateful” poem to Verona, a bad boy played by Heath Ledger.

“I hate that you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, and I hate it even more when you make me cry,” the poem reads in part.

Towards the end of the lecture, Stiles seems to get emotional as he remembers the scene. Her co-star Ledger died in 2008 at the age of 28. 10 things i hate about you is also one of Ledger’s most popular films a knight’s tale, Casanova, The dark knight And Brokeback Mountainamong many others.

Directed by Gil Junger, 10 things i hate about you is a modernized version of William Shakespeare’s comedy, To tame the rogue Set in the ’90s, the film follows Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a high school student who can’t date Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) until her antisocial older sister Kat finds a boyfriend. So Cameron pays a mysterious boy, Patrick, to charm Kat.

Watch Stiles read the poem below.
