Gwyneth Paltrow says she’s never seen AVENGERS: ENDGAME and talks about Pepper Potts’ future in the MCU

Academy Award winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow played the MCU character Pepper Potts, assistant and future wife of Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Junior.), across the Iron Man film as well as the Avengers movie. His last appearance as Potts was in the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgameand although it was the biggest film of 2019 and the culmination of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paltrow has never seen the film.

In a recent conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, the actress confessed:

“To be honest, at some point I stopped watching them. I’ve never seen Endgame. I can’t keep track of who is what. But I probably should at some point.”

Paltrow went on to admit that she only agreed to join the cast of Iron Man due to the initial “indie” feel of the then-unknown Iron Man franchise.

“The first movie we made was very different from the others because the studio didn’t think it was going to be a big hit. They hired Jon Favreau to direct, which was great. And they hired Robert Downey Jr., who wasn’t… unhireable at the time. His career was at a very low point. We improvised almost every scene in that movie. We wrote the scenes in the morning in Jon’s trailer. It was like making an independent movie. Then the movie was a huge success that then we never made them like that again.”

The actress released a recent statement via social media after being asked why Pepper Potts had been absent from recent Marvel films, and explained:

“We just stopped doing it because Iron Man died. And why do you need Pepper Potts without Iron Man?”

And while there has been some fan talk about the supposed possibility that Iron Man will one day return to the MCU, perhaps through the use of the multiverse, Marvel boss Kevin Feige released a recent statement debunking that theory. He explained that they would never want to “magically undo” Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Endgame, as that would steal some of the emotion that was put into it. I totally agree with that decision. And I think Paltrow should make up for at least her final phase in the MCU!
