Tegan and Sara’s Sara Quin talks about how motherhood has given her a “different perspective” on her future

Sara says that she and her partner, Stacy ReaderThey had been together for 13 years when “they started talking seriously about having a child.” They moved their lives from Los Angeles to Vancouver to start actively trying.

“I think from the moment I found out Stacy was pregnant, I felt like my life was changing a lot more than it had in the past,” Sara explains. “It’s no small thing. This is a big step towards a different path, a different life. And I got excited.”

His first child, a son named sidwas born in August 2022. Sara admits that motherhood “gave me a Really different perspective on what my life is going to be and how I want to spend my time. It made me feel so grateful for the independence and life I’ve had over the past 20 years. I’ve gotten to see the world and have so many things I can’t wait to share with Sid.”

On the day Sid was born, Tegan, 43, sweetly brought a large pizza to Sara and Stacy at the hospital. Seeing her twin sister, Sara began to cry.

“I feel like I’ve completely changed our lives by having a child,” Sara says of her dynamic with Tegan. “It’s always been me and Tegan. It was always us first. It’s always been our career, our band, and I think somehow it’s different now. And in that moment, when I saw Tegan it was like… I felt like I was suddenly in a different world, and it was such a relief to see her and know that she could be in that world with me.
