Iconic Hollywood producer Joel Silver was fired from Amazon Studios’ next film Play dirty. Mark Wahlberg is the protagonist of the film and is produced by Robert Downey Junior.which he was originally supposed to perform.
Writer and director Shane Black is helming the film and has worked with Silver on several film projects over the years, including The good guys, Predator, Lethal WeaponAND Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
As for why Silver was fired, Deadline reports that “the decision reportedly stemmed from Silver’s alleged verbal abuse of studio executives over creative differences.”
Silver was also fired from Amazon’s revamp Street housedirected by Doug Liman and interpreted Jake Gyllenhaal. But the producer had already “fulfilled his obligations” on that project before he was fired.
Play dirty is an adaptation of the Donald Westlake/Richard Stark crime novels involving a career criminal character named Parker. Wahlberg will play Parker, “a master thief who approaches his job with a simple, no-nonsense work ethic. He is a craftsman. He is brutal, brilliant. He is also mortal. That’s all it takes to get the money and get away with it.”
Looks like Silver needs to take a cold pill. I’m sure “verbal abuse” is something he’s been doing for years. People in the industry won’t put up with that kind of shit anymore.
