Here’s some interesting casting news you never thought you’d see coming. Sebastiano Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Pam and Tommy) will star in a new film titled The apprentice, and will play a young Donald Trump. Joining him in the film are Jeremy Forte (Succession) AND Maria Bakalova (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3).
The film is described as “an exploration of power and ambition, set in a world of corruption and deception, The apprentice will examine Trump’s efforts to build his real estate business in New York in the 1970s and 1980s, while also digging into his relationship with infamous lawyer Roy Cohn. It is a story of mentor and protégé that traces the origins of an important American dynasty.
Strong will take on the role of Roy Cohn, with Bakalova as Trump’s first wife, Ivana. This is a great cast and it will be especially interesting to see Stan play Trump. Of all the actors who could have played Trump, I never would have thought that Sebastian Stan would be the actor to play him.
The film comes from the director Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider). The film’s screenplay was written by Gabriele Shermanwhose bestseller The loudest voice in the room inspired the Showtime miniseries The loudest voicehero Russell Crowe as Fox News founder Roger Ailes.
News of the film project comes as Trump stands trial in New York for fraud. He is also currently under multiple indictments in numerous cases and, despite all of this, he is the current Republican front-runner for 2024.
