Many people were curious about how to direct James Wan’S Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will do at the box office. Well, according to early box office projections, as expected, it shouldn’t do well.
Box Office Pro is tracking the DC Studios film to earn $32 million to $42 million during its opening weekend. In total, the Aquaman sequel is expected to have a total domestic return of $105-168 million. This is a substantial drop from the original film which somehow opened to $67.9 million in the United States and Canada in 2018. The film would go on to gross more than $1.1 billion in total worldwide .
A box office analyst from Exhibitor Relations previously spoke about the film’s box office, saying, “Everyone is against DC, but there’s a chance, especially with limited competition this holiday season, that Aquaman could still play as a gangster due to lack of products.” . Sometimes the right movie at the right time is all you need.”
I honestly don’t think that will happen. Even if the movie actually turns out to be good, it most likely won’t be a huge success at the box office. It’s not that everyone is “disagreeing with DC,” it’s that everyone is disagreeing with all superhero movies right now. Superhero fatigue has taken over and studios haven’t been very smart in managing the franchises they’ve built as they’ve turned into a game about quantity over quality. It’s a sad truth that studies will try to resolve.
It will be interesting to see how studios handle superhero films over the next three to five years. Will there be a real change? Will we start seeing more quality comic book movies made? Or will they continue to publish the same content over and over again?
In the Aquaman sequel, “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to defeat Aquaman once and for all,” reads the official Aquaman synopsis and the lost kingdom. “This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever, as he wields the power of the mythical Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must put aside their differences to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family and the world from irreversible destruction.
Jason Momoa plays Aquaman in the film and he joins him Patrick Wilson like Orm, Amber heard like Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the role of Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Dolph Lundgren as king Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
Warner Bros. will release the film in theaters on December 20.
