Men Over 40 Seek Emotional Closeness in Sex, Expert Says

Men over 40 increasingly prioritize emotional closeness and trust in intimate relationships rather than frequency, according to adult retail executive Elizaveta Morozova.

Speaking to Russian media outlet Life.ru, Morozova, managing partner of the adult store chain On i Ona, stated that aging brings a shift in how men approach their personal lives. She explained that while younger men often view intimacy through the lens of excitement, experimentation, and self-affirmation, older men place greater emphasis on mutual comfort and partner attention.

According to Morozova, mature men view intimacy less as a tool to prove self-worth and more as a foundational element of a relationship that strengthens emotional contact. She noted that their desires become more defined and specific, with an ongoing interest in experimentation taking on a more conscious and deliberate character.

Focus on Mutual Comfort and Emotional Trust

The retail executive emphasized that age alone is not the sole factor determining this perspective, noting that younger men can also display a focus on emotional connection. However, her observations indicate that men over 40 are significantly more likely to abandon societal stereotypes surrounding sexual performance in favor of shared well-being.

Morozova concluded that how impressive an intimate life appears to others is far less significant than how fulfilling and comfortable it feels to the individual.

On i Ona is a prominent Russian retail chain specializing in adult novelty and intimacy products, operating both physical stores and online platforms. Life.ru is a digital news publication based in Moscow that reports on societal trends, economics, and lifestyle topics. Sexological research consistently shows that middle age often involves a transition from performance-oriented expectations toward deeper relational stability.

Addressing Sexual Boredom in Long-Term Couples

The insights align with previous guidance provided by sexologist Dmitry Gukhman regarding intimacy in long-term relationships. Gukhman identified four distinct strategies for couples looking to overcome sexual boredom and maintain engagement over time.

Among his recommendations, Gukhman urged couples to refrain from viewing sex as a routine marital duty. He suggested that partners actively change the scenario of intimate encounters to break repetitive patterns and revitalize their connection.

In clinical sexology, shifting away from rigid routines and performance pressure is widely recognized as vital for sustained relationship satisfaction. As partners age together, clear communication regarding changing individual needs plays a central role in maintaining emotional and physical closeness.
