Amazon has released a collection of new photos showcasing its highly anticipated series adaptation of the hit video game franchise Fall. They offer a first real look at the series’ post-apocalyptic setting along with images of Walton Goggins as “Ghoul”, Yellow jackets star Ella Purnell as Lucy and the Brotherhood of Steel all dressed in Power Armor.
The world of Fall it is “one in which the future imagined by Americans in the late 1940s explodes in on itself through nuclear war in 2077. In Fallout, the harshness of the wasteland is contrasted with the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through ‘nuclear energy. It’s serious in tone, but sprinkled with moments of wry humor and B-movie nuclear fantasies.
As for the series, it is set in future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, will tell an original story based on the Fallout games, and this new story will be part of the games canon.
The story centers on Lucy, who “has lived her entire life inside a dungeon, where every need and desire has been satisfied as generations upon generations await the day when it will be safe to emerge.”
It is explained that “When a crisis forces Lucy to venture up there on a rescue mission, she discovers that the planet above remains a hellish landscape teeming with giant insects, voracious mutant animal ‘abominations’, and a human population of tanned miscreants who follow good manners , resemble the morals and hygiene of the gunslinger of the Old West Downton Abbey… The games are about the culture of division, of the haves and the have-nots that, unfortunately, have become increasingly acute in this country and around the world in recent decades,” Nolan tells Vanity Fair for this exclusive first look.
Lucy is described as kind, but naive. “In the Fall In-universe, humans lucky enough to survive the apocalypse in underground communities only had this option available to them because they had money. Forcing doe-eyed Lucy into this sadistic, Darwinian remnant of civilization opens the door for Fallout to engage in a bit of social satire, as well as action and adventure.
The series was created by Jonathan Nolan AND Lisa Joy (Westworld) and Nolan said, “We can talk about it in a wonderful, speculative way. I think we’re all looking at the world and saying, “God, things seem to be going in a very, very scary direction.”
She added: “So many of us have such naive ideas, even now, about everyone else’s experiences, and that’s one of the things I love about America. It’s this gigantic, maniacal collection of different experiences, different points of view. Lucy is charming and brave and strong…and then you see her confront the reality of her, hey, maybe the seemingly virtuous things you grew up with aren’t necessarily so virtuous. If they are virtuous, they express a circumstantial virtuosity. It is a luxury virtue. You have your point because you’ve never run out of food, right? You guys were able to share everything, because you had enough to share.
He went on to explain that the story tells “about his collision with the harsh reality of other people’s experiences and what happened to the people who, frankly, were left behind, left to die.”
The show itself is scheduled for release on April 12, 2024. Check out the images below and let us know if you like what you see!
