‘DWTS’ recap: Semifinals end with stunning twist

When dancing with the Stars At the start of Season 32, there were 14 couples vying to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Now only 5 semi-finalists remain. During the November 28 episode the couples will perform Latin and ballroom dances.

Ariana Madix AND Pasha Pashkov They are the first. They do a fun and seductive dance to “Runaway Baby.” Bruno Mars. Derek Hough praises that Ariana is “running towards that end” with this performance. Bruno Tonoli echoes Derek and says Ariana is a “runaway success.” Carrie Ann Inaba He tells Ariana that she has “everything” she needs to “win this competition.” Ariana and Pasha’s rating: CarrieAnn = 9; Derek = 9; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 28 out of 30.

Jason Mraz AND Daniella Karagach Dance a beautiful Viennese waltz to Jason’s song “I Won’t Give Up.” Bruno is moved by the “beautiful song” and the “beautiful waltz”. Carrie Ann calls the performance “very polished” and says there were “incredible moments of excellence.” However, she adds that Jason feels “protected” when he dances. Ratings from Jason and Daniella: CarrieAnn = 9; Derek = 9; and Bruno = 9. Total score = 27 out of 30.

Xochitl Gomez AND Val Chmerkovsky dazzles with an incredible samba to the sound of “Samba” by Gloria Estefan. “It was spectacular,” declares Carrie Ann, before adding that the performance was “perhaps one of the most difficult routines we have ever seen.” Derek remarks on how “full” the performance was. “She is the samba diva,” Bruno says of Xóchitl. Xochitl and Val scores: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 10; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 30 out of 30.

Charity Lawson AND Artem Chigvintsev dance a sensual rumba to “Love The Way You Lie Part III” by skylar grey. Derek tells Charity that he made rumba look “easy.” However, he believes there were times when he “lacked emotion”. Bruno gets up from his chair to disagree with Derek. Carrie Ann tells Charity that she finally did that “game-changing” dance. “The beauty of that dance was art in movement,” she adds. Charity and Artem scores: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 9; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 29 out of 30.

Alyson Hannigan AND Sasha Farber have a lot of fun with their song “Footloose” by Kenny logs in. “You’ve improved a lot since the first week,” says Bruno, before noting that there have been “a few mistakes.” Carrie Ann acknowledges it’s been a “tough routine” and says Alyson’s journey “has been amazing.” Derek tells Alyson that he “can’t help but support her.” Alyson and Sasha score: CarrieAnn = 9; Derek = 8; and Bruno = 8. Total score = 25 out of 30.

Jason and Daniella’s second dance is a fierce and intense Paso Doble to “Diablo Rojo” by rodrigo and gabriela. All three judges gave Jason and Daniella a standing ovation. Carrie Ann hugs Jason and Daniella. “It was magical,” she says. Derek praises the “real Paso Doble” and tells him it’s “the way to get to the finals.” Bruno shouts that the show was “diabolical” and notes that the routine was “extremely difficult.” Ratings from Jason and Daniella: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 10; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 30 out of 30.

Xochitl and Val return to the room with an impressive waltz to “La Vie en Rose” by Lady Gaga. Derek, in tears, tells Xochitl and Val that “Len [Goodman] I would have liked that dance. And he adds: “It was absolutely perfect.” Bruno says that Xóchitl is “an artist”. Carrie Ann is moved to tears. “You really touched my heart,” she says. Xochitl and Val scores: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 10; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 30 out of 30.

Charity and Artem take a surprising quick step to “BO$$” by Fifth Harmony. Bruno tells Charity that he had “a lot of cheek and enthusiasm” in the performance. Carrie Ann notes that the “challenging” routine was “fulfilling and happy.” Derek stands up and encourages Charity. This is the performance I wanted to see from her. Charity and Artem scores: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 10; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 30 out of 30.

Alyson and Sasha amaze with a beautiful waltz to “Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones. “In my opinion, that was your best dance,” Derek told Alyson. Alyson starts to cry and Derek applauds her for always giving her all. Bruno raved about the “beautiful” performance and says it had a “dreamlike quality”. Alyson and Sasha score: CarrieAnn = 8; Derek = 9; and Bruno = 9. Total score = 26 out of 30.

The final performance of the night comes from Ariana and Pasha. They shine in the room with an incredible foxtrot to “Trampoline” by SHAED & ZAYN. “It was sensational,” praises Derek. Bruno adds that the performance was “brilliant”. Carrie Ann declares Ariana is back and says it was a “wonderful way to end the semi-finals.” Ariana and Pasha’s rating: CarrieAnn = 10; Derek = 10; and Bruno = 10. Total score = 30 out of 30.

The results have arrived. In a shocking move, all 5 couples will compete in the DWTS season 32 finale. For the first time in the semi-finals no one goes home. Scores and grades will be reported next week.
