Zack Snyder on his R-rated version of ‘Rebel Moon’: ‘It’s very difficult, very sexy, violent, crazy’

Zack Snyder teases his director’s cut Rebel Moon and now reveals what viewers can expect from the R-rated version of the film.

“I wrote the script in a vacuum, just like I do with my normal aesthetic — very loud, very sexy, violent, crazy, everything is at 11 o’clock,” Snyder said during an interview with Weekly entertainment.

Snyder said his thinking behind it was that he could “condense it into an adventure for a wider audience”. However, during his talks with Netflix, they let him “go back to his original subversive R-rated version”.

“I thought, ‘Yeah, that would be great. And they say, “Then we can, you know, you can do your thing and we can have it as a separate piece of content,” he added.

Snyder later said, “I’m very proud of the PG-13 version of the film. I’m real. I think it’s very beautiful and clear and cool, but again, there’s just the weird darkness of the R-rated version . If that was my original thesis of what the film could be, then that’s what we did. That’s what we created in the R-rated version.”

Earlier this year, Synder talked about the extended version of his film, which would give viewers “almost an hour of additional content”.

“I think it’s a legitimate version of the expanded universe. You really see a lot there. It’s just more painted,” Snyder said in an interview with Tudum. “The directors [cut] is a deep dive I’ve been known to take throughout my career. I don’t know how I got into this director’s cut thing, but what I can say is that for me in the past, it was always director’s cuts that I had to fight for and no one wanted. It was this bastard child that I kept wanting to put back together because they felt like there was a deeper version.
