Seth MacFarlane’S Ted is making its big return in a new prequel series coming to Peacock, and today the first teaser trailer was released! The teaser shows Ted from 1993 writing to Future Ted from 2023 telling him that they have a new series and asking what the future will be like. It’s the same kind of comedy we’ve come to expect from MacFarlane, so if you like that humor, you’ll like this one too.
In this series of comic prequel events of the Ted movie, “It’s 1993 and Ted the Bear’s (MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He now lives in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend, sixteen-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes AND Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Georgia Whigham). Ted may be a bad influence on John, but ultimately he is a loyal friend who is always willing to risk for friendship.
Peacock also released a note from MacFarlane and the executive producers/writers/co-showrunners Paul Corrigan AND Brad Walsh about the new series:
“Each generation develops its own unique artistic style, its own way of seeing the world. In the 1920s they were the subversive musical phrasings of jazz. In the 1950s it was the bold brushwork of the abstract expressionist. The unique art of our generation is streaming content based on previously successful intellectual property. In this proud tradition, we humbly give you Ted.
“Our series is a prequel to the Ted movies. It’s set in the ’90s but is based on the timeless truth that being sixteen sucks. The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend he’s a was a magical teddy bear with a disgusting mouth and a propensity for drug use. The three of us were teenagers in the 1990s and grew up in and around Boston, where the show is set, so many of these stories are personal to us . we were able to subject the characters to some of the same humiliations and milestones we experienced back then. Plus, we made things up (there are a lot of pages to fill and real life is mostly boring).”
The series will premiere on Peacock on January 11, 2024. Watch the teaser!
