Rumors spread Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in the MCU Avengers: Secret Wars. During a recent interview on Today’s show, Johansson addressed these rumors, explaining that it was a “true Marvel miracle.” She said:
“I feel like [Avengers: Endgame] It’s kind of the end, right? Like, can you come back? Could he be a vampire version of the character? Because that’s what I’m here for. Like a zombie version, maybe. It would be a miracle. It would be a true Marvel miracle. It would be wonderful. But you know, who knows?”
He’s obviously not very familiar with what’s currently happening in the MCU right now because if he were, he’d understand how easy it would be for Marvel to bring Black Widow back. But it definitely doesn’t sound like it’s something he’s aware of even if Marvel is thinking about it.
An earlier report specifically mentioned carrying Robert Downey Junior.Johansson’s Iron Man and Black Widow return for a new Avengers film. Other original stars that Marvel would like to return include Chris Evans in the role of Captain America, Jeremy Renner in the role of Hawkeye, Marco Ruffalo like the Hulk, and Chris Hemsworth like Thor.
It was reported at the time: “With Iger publicly acknowledging the downside of a glut of Marvel TV that ‘diluted focus and attention,’ the gatekeepers of the comic book empire are considering some dramatic moves. Sources say there have been talks to bring back the original gang for an Avengers movie.
We’ll just have to wait and see if anything really comes of it. Personally I’m not convinced by the rumors as they would take away the impact of the deaths of Iron Man and Black Widow.
It was also said that the studio “hasn’t committed to the idea yet — if they were able to bring those actors back, it wouldn’t be cheap.”
Secret Wars was Marvel Comics’ first major crossover event series and made its debut in 1984. The story centered on Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains transported to Battleworld thanks to a powerful being known as the Beyonder. It is on Battleworld that heroes and villains can decide once and for all whether good or evil is the greater force.
