From Marvel Captain America: Brave New World will reportedly undergo some extensive reshoots involving several major scenes. This information comes from The Hot Mic’s Jeff Sneider, who says the new footage will come after negative screening test scores.
Filming is said to be scheduled from January to May 2024 and it was also reported that three “major” sequences from the initial filming would be cut from the film.
Reshooting and rearranging films is nothing new for big tentpole films, especially with Marvel. They have always been known to make major changes to the film and television projects they develop. While I’m sure they were frustrated with the bad test scores, going back and reworking their films like this is normal for them.
Anthony Mackie is back in the role of Sam Wilson, who is now Captain America, and is joined by him Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, who in the story is the president of the United States.
Kevin Feige previously talked about the dynamic between the characters Wilson and Ross, saying, “There’s a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film we will see the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is simply incredible.
Mackie had previously discussed the role of Captain America and how his character is different from Steve Rogers and the rest of the MCU superheroes. He explained:
“Sam is the only character without superpowers. He’s just a normal guy who hangs out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I’ve been in a few fights. And heart and charisma have never helped me in a fight. usually he just got me beat up, so this could cause a problem when you go to fight someone like Thanos.
“So, I think he has to go on stage with a very different understanding of what it means to be a good guy or to be a bad guy and what are the decisions that make you toe that line the way you want it.” So I see him more as a more humane Cap than a distinctive judge Cap — [a] Limit of judgment, where this is right and this is wrong. There are decisions that make you choose right or wrong.”
Giulio Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) will direct the film from a screenplay written by Dalan Musson AND Malcolm Spellmanboth of whom they wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spellman will produce with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
The film was also recently given a new release date, set for February 14, 2025.
