It was a very good night for Michael J. Fox. The Apple TV+-directed Davis Guggenheim documentary about the star’s life and his battle with Parkinson’s disease won in all five categories for which it was nominated at the 8th annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards. It won the jury in the categories Best Documentary, Best Director, Editing for Michael Harte, Narration for Fox itself and Biographical Documentary.
Held tonight at the Edison Hotel in New York City and broadcast live, the Critics Choice Documentary Awards recognize the year’s best achievements in documentaries released in theaters, on television and on major digital platforms, including voting CCA members are identified.
20 days in Mariupol There were two wins for the awards for best first documentary for director Msyyslav Chernov and for best political documentary, as well as for the Netflix documentary American SymphonyAnd The deepest breath who took home two prizes each. Jon Batiste was the subject American Symphony which had six major nominations and won an award for best music documentary and for Batiste’s score. The deepest breath won best sports documentary and for his camerawork.
HBO has had great success with this I’m Mary Tyler Moore awarded as best archival documentary.
