Paramount Pictures is developing another remake of THE LONGEST YARD

Paramount Pictures is developing another remake of the prison football comedy The longest construction site. The first film starred Burt Reynolds and was released in 1974. In 2005, the first remake arrived Adam Sandler protagonist in it. The next remake is coming Rodney Barneswho served as an executive producer and writer for HBO Time to Win: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

The 1974 film was directed by Roberto Aldrich. Reynolds played Paul Crewe in the film, a former professional football player who finds himself in prison after a series of bad life choices. In an attempt to boost the morale of his fellow inmates and fight back against the abusive prison guards, Crewe organizes a football match between the prisoners and the prison guards.

The 2005 remake was directed by Pietro Segal. In this version, Sandler plays the role of Paul Crewe, a former NFL quarterback who, after a series of legal problems, ends up in prison. Like the original, the story follows Crewe as he is recruited to coach and lead a team of inmates in a high-stakes soccer match against prison guards. The remake had its own brand of humor, with Sandler’s signature comedic touch, and features an ensemble cast including Chris Rock, Nelly and Burt Reynolds, reprising his role from the 1974 original. The film retained the main plot of the original film, but added a contemporary sense of humor.

I imagine this new remake will tell the same story but will be updated once again for the modern era. I mean, I liked the original movie and the remake was pretty fun too! But why are they doing it again?! It’s not that interesting a story to tell a third time. This is the state Hollywood is in right now. Paramount Pictures can’t get a new Star Trek movie off the ground, but it can push forward with another remake of The Longest Yard.

The film hails from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler served as executive producer on the 2005 version of the film.
