Marvel’s ECHO Producer Says Character’s Powers Were Changed Because His Comedy Power Was ‘A Little Boring’

Marvel’s first trailer Echo the series came out last week and it actually looked a lot better than I expected. The series seemed to have a rough production, but maybe they could have actually delivered a solid show.

Series director and executive producer Sydney Freeland recently we talked about the show and the powers of the characters and why they will be different series than the comics. It all came down to the fact that his powers in the comics were boring. He told Variety:

“His power in the comics is that he can copy anything, any movement, anything. It’s a bit boring. I will say that this is not his power. I’ll just leave things as they are.”

The five-episode streaming event “spotlights Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) while being chased by Wilson Fisk (Vincenzo D’Onofrio) criminal empire,” reads the new synopsis. “When the journey brings her home, she must confront her family and her legacy.”

The series is also the protagonist Vincenzo D’Onofrio (Hawkeye, Godfather of Harlem), Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, English), Graham Greene (1883, Goliath), Tantoo Cardinal (The Flower Moon Assassins, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX Reservation Dogs, American Gods), Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX’s reserve dogs), AND Cody Lightning (Hey, Victor! Four sheets in the wind).

All five episodes will be released January 10 on Hulu and Disney+.
